Free Improvisation in Paint and Sound

This work explores the potential for interplay between sight and sound.  It mirrors the process of free improvisation in jazz. The work is made without preconception and as a conversation  between the senses. Sometimes it starts with paint sometimes with sound. After the initiating move each subsequent layer of sound or paint is laid down in the light of what is already happening. The work is created as it arrives. It is a back and forth process moving between the two sensory modes each informing the other. It ends when both appear to be fully materialised. The sounds are sometimes found sound, more often instrumented sound created spontaneously and recorded in a portable digital multitrack studio. Both can stand alone but ideally are experienced together, looking and listening simultaneously.
